There are SO many books out there, and sometimes it is overwhelming on what books I should buy/borrow for my child. I have a 2 year old girl and 4 year old boy, and these are our current favorites:

Top 7 Usborne Nonfiction:

7 - Illustrated Elementary Science Dictionary
(Definitely geared for a school aged child, but my son loves for me to read science facts and he loves to look at the illustrations.)
6 - What Makes It Rain
5 - Lift the Flap Colors   (I love the different aspects of colors it covers.)
4 - Lift the Flap Numbers   (Great progression of number concepts.)
3 - Very First Book of Things to Spot  (The questions  you can ask your child are endless!)
2 - Look Inside: Your Body   (SO informative and the flaps are amazing!)
1 - You Choose   (a book that never gets old and you can learn about your child's favorites)

(Runner up: If you have a car lover - Look Inside Cars. Unfortunately it is out of print, but I found a copy on Amazon.)
You seriously can't go wrong with any of the Lift the Flap or Look Inside books.
